NCC Hails Tijani’s Push For Girls’ Digital Inclusion

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has applauded the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his sustained drive towards empowering Nigerian girls with critical digital skills.

The commendation came as part of activities marking the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, an initiative designed to promote gender inclusion in the nation’s fast-growing technology ecosystem.

In a practical demonstration of this commitment, no fewer than 185 female students were hosted at the NCC Museum in Abuja, where they undertook an educational tour of Nigeria’s telecommunications history and evolution.

During the visit, the students were exposed to key milestones in the country’s telecoms journey, gaining valuable insights into how innovation and technology have transformed communication and economic development.

The Commission noted that the initiative is aimed at inspiring a new generation of female innovators by equipping them with the knowledge and motivation to explore opportunities in Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and other STEM-related fields.

It stressed that programmes such as the National Girls in ICT are crucial to bridging the gender gap in the technology space and ensuring inclusive participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.

Stakeholders have continued to emphasise the importance of early exposure and mentorship in nurturing young talents, particularly among girls, to position them as active contributors to the country’s technological advancement.
