Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido, who played a prominent role in his uncle’s campaign, shared a celebratory message on Sunday shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the poll.
“WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01,” the singer wrote on X, alongside a video celebrating the governor’s victory.
The Grammy-nominated singer, Davido, was watching Channels Television’s live coverage of the election results and patiently awaited the declaration of his uncle as the winner.
As the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, formally declared Adeleke the winner, Davido erupted in excitement. The singer jumped up, knelt down and eventually lay on the floor in celebration.
Members of his team, who were watching the declaration with him, immediately joined in the celebrations, cheering and celebrating alongside the visibly elated singer.
Adeleke of the Accord Party polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State was first elected in 2022.
INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Professor Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner early on Sunday, saying he had satisfied the requirements of the law.
Davido had been deeply involved in the campaign, serving as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council. He also suspended aspects of his music career to focus on mobilising support for Adeleke ahead of the election.
During the campaign, the singer participated in rallies and grassroots mobilisation activities while using his social media platforms to encourage supporters to vote and remain vigilant during the electoral process.
In the final days before the election, Davido intensified his campaign activities in Osun, urging voters to reject violence and intimidation and to defend their votes.
On election day, he remained active online, commenting on emerging results and calling on supporters to monitor the collation process.
He also repeatedly urged the electoral commission and relevant authorities to ensure transparency in the announcement of results.
His involvement added significant visibility to Adeleke’s campaign, with several rallies attracting large crowds and generating widespread attention online.
Following INEC’s declaration, jubilation erupted across Osun, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown.
Supporters gathered around the INEC collation centre in Osogbo and outside the governor’s residence in Ede, singing, dancing and celebrating his return for a second term.
Adeleke’s victory secures another four-year term for the governor, who won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the Accord Party in December 2025.
